project 5(?): create sculpture. select environment. paste.

December 7, 2009

i decided to create a sculpture that would begin as one solid piece and then completely come apart in 15 hours, roughly. i came across the artist andy goldsworthy’s environmental sculptures and fell in love immediately.

materials

OMG!! they're all gonna die!

in the beginning... i had to build this in layers. i placed the objects where i was interested in seeing them. i would let that layer of colored water and materials freeze, and then build another, etc.

completely frozen and ready to be placed...now to get it out of the glass.

i poured boiling water over the glass to crack it-no worries though. i taped the glass up before i even started the freezing process. no shattering occurred.

ready, set, melt!

i love the colors!

in about two hours, it melted away from the rocks placed in the base and toppled over

getting smaller

and it's gone

i really enjoyed watching the ice disappear, and i was interested to see where the objects would fall or roll to. I really like how the objects found their final resting places.

proposed location: Town Lake Hike and Bike Trail in Austin, TX

this one isn't finished yet

i made a coffee cup stencil, and it's great. it just takes a little longer to paint cleanly- coming soon: the tyler durden coffee cup
